ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Bengaluru City University since its inception has been known to lay equal emphasis on teaching and community outreach. The nature of engagement with the neighborhood included Vaccination services, Community welfare programmes. To further reiterate its commitment to community service, Department of Economics is offering Master’s program in economics was introduced with a view to cater to the emerging demand of economics professionals at the post graduate level. The Department of economics is actively involved in academic and field-based practices, since its establishment (2018).
It strives to work towards participative, inclusive and sustainable development. The knowledge and skill derive from economics have been used in various fields including policy making and planning, development and welfare programmers, conflict resolution and in the area of professional education such a law, management, engineering and technology and media studies . The department endeavors to make: Globally competent, socially significant, and locally relevant trained personnel. The function of Department covers four areas first, teaching which includes imparting academic degrees with the motto of providing education for sustainable development. The second is Practice which includes integrating the theory into practice by programmatic intervention and field laboratories. The third is research which includes students’ dissertation based on empirical work and evidence. The fourth area is extension covering field action projects.

ECONOMICS HONOURS
Programme outcome after completion of B.A Programme in economics, the student will be well acquainted with the major concepts and principles of economics. They will be encouraged to analyze the basic economic ideas in practice and will also be able to learn the present and past economic condition of the country. Student will learn how economics activities like production, consumption, distribution etc are organized by the markets. They will also acquire knowledge national income, employment, inflation deflation business calycle monetary and fiscal policy and the banking system. Student will acquire analytical and reasoning skill and will be able to predict about possible economic outcome base on economic theories. Students will be equipped with quantitative analytical skills with the help of which they will be able to collect, tabulate, present and analyze data to support economic decision making.
Pogramme Specific Outcome (CBCS): As the undergraduate CBCS programme is at par in all over the country, students will be immensely benefitted to gather knowledge about the subject equally with the students of other parts of India. This will help them to be prepared for higher education, National competitive examinations and students will be able to get equal job opportunities along with job seekers around the country. The programme is such that students can choose any of the subject of their choice, may it be from any stream which is of utmost importance to unlock the potential of students for they will find interest in the subject of their choice that will help them to build the future career.
BACHELOR OF ARTS
Title of the Course: The course shall be called ‘Bachelor of Arts’ leading to ‘BA’ Degree.
Duration of the Course: The Course of study for BA Degree shall extend over a period of Six Semesters, normally extending to three academic years.
Eligibility for Admission: a candidate who has passed two years Pre-University Examination conducted by Pre-University Educations Board in the state of Karnataka or any other examination considered as equivalent there to shall be eligible for admission to these programmes. In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Cat-1, there shall be a relaxation of 05%. However the eligibility for admissions shall be as per the general guidelines/orders of the Bengaluru City University /Government of Karnataka, as notified from time to time.
Selection Procedure: Candidates shall be admitted to BA course based on the marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examinations and the reservation guidelines/orders issued by Bengaluru Central University/Government of Karnataka from time to time.
